Saddle Blankets & Saddle Pads

Saddle blankets are usually made of wool. The saddle blanket is folded and inserted under the saddle in order to absorb sweat. The blanket also provides cushion for the saddle and helps protect the horses back.

Saddle blankets are usually associated with western style saddles. Saddle pads are thicker and usually have layers of felt, foam or other material between the outer cover on top, and a soft cover on the bottom. Some popular designs help absorb shock and minimize fatigue for the horse. A saddle pad or saddle blanket cannot take the place of a properly fitted saddle, however a saddle pad can partially compensate for minor saddle fitting problems. Saddle pads of various styles and shapes can be used with virtually any type of saddle.
