Lunge Lines and Lead Ropes

Longeing or lungeing with the use of a lunge line is a technique horse training.

A horse is asked to work at the end of a long line commonly called a lunge line and respond to commands from the handler on the ground who holds the line. Lungeing is performed in a large circle or ring with the horse traveling around the outside edge  of the circle or ring with the trainer in the middle. For a young or inexperienced horse, lungeing is used to teach the horse to respond to voice commands, the trainers body language, the feel of a saddle and bridle and to begin introduction of reins and bit pressure.
