Horse Hoof and Shoe Care
Proper hoof care and shoeing is very important when caring for any horse and should be done daily but a weekly hoof check is sometimes sufficient.
Many horses are quite healthy without daily brushing but a lack of hoof care can result in many health problems. If most problems go unattended or ignored, the result can be long term issue for the horse. Proper hoof care will help prevent thrush. Thrush is a common hoof bacterial infection in which in very severe cases, may cause lameness. Lameness is when an animal fails to travel in a regular and sound manner on all four feet.
All domesticated horses need regular hoof trims, regardless of use. Some of the proper tools used by a professional farrier for shooing or hoof care are the rasp, nippers, clinchers, and hoof pick to name a few.
