Cutting Saddles are a type of western saddle that is used in a western event called cutting. This is where a horse and rider are judged on their ability to separate a calf away from a cattle herd. They must keep the calf away for a short period of time. This sport originally evolved from cattle ranches in the great American West. It was a cutting horses job to separate cows from the herd. They were seperated for vaccinating, castrating, and sorting. Eventually competitions arose between the best cutting horses and riders in the area.
