Bullwhips and Ropes

Bullwhips were originally used by farmers as a useful tool to work livestock. Bullwhips by nature, are intended for use as an agricultural tool. They are traditionally used to control livestock in open country. A bull whips length, flexibility and design allow it to be thrown in such a way that at the end of the throw, the whip cracks loudly. The end part of the bullwhip can actually exceed the speed of sound, thus creating a small sonic crack. A bullwhip should never be used to strike cattle or any other animal.
A lasso is a loop of generally stiff rope, that is intended to be thrown around a target and tighten or restict when pulled. A lasso is a well known tool of the American cowboy. When referring to the length of rope used before or after a loop is formed, the rope itself is more properly called a lariat. Many cowboys simply call it just a plain ol' rope!
