Breastcollars

A breastcollar, also known as a breastplate is a piece of horse tack used on horses.

Western riders generally refer this piece of tack as a breastcollar. It has also been called a breast plate. Its sole purpose is to keep the saddle from sliding back on the rider and is very helpful on horses with larger shoulders. A breastcollar is an importnant safety feature in any type of riding, particularly on cross-country riding. If the riders girth, cinch or billet break, they will have enough time to stop and dismount before the saddle slides off the horses back or underneath the belly.
